Each year, Mumbai, India, faces a harsh and recurring reality: as the monsoon season arrives, the ocean spits out tons of waste—garbage that people have carelessly discarded and swept into its depths.
Massive heaps of plastic overwhelm the beaches, almost as though the sea is returning humanity’s thoughtless waste. Municipal workers use bulldozers, trucks, and cleaning crews, enduring constant rain to collect and dispose of the trash in landfills.
This season, the ocean delivered an astonishing 427 tons of waste to the coastline. For a city of nearly 19 million, this may be expected, but it remains deeply unsettling.
A simple plea: never throw trash into the water or leave it on the shore. Whether big or small, no litter belongs in nature. Let’s put an end to this destructive cycle.
