Oscar nominee Demi Moore kept an incredibly candid personal diary for years, detailing heartbreaking moments from her life and struggles. No one knew about this private journal, but it was recently discovered by accident.
It turns out that Mooreās diary had been stored for over 20 years in a hangar once used by her ex-husband, actor Bruce Willis. He recently decided to get rid of a large number of items, including the starās memoirs, which ended up in the trash. The journal was found in an envelope labeled āDemiās Personal Memoirsā by an employee at Santa Monica Airport, where the storage facility is located.
Written primarily in the mid-ā80s, Moore poured out her emotions in the diary, discussing failed relationships and struggles with alcohol. She opened up about her first marriage to Freddy Moore.
āOn the night before my wedding, I grabbed a bottle of alcohol and went to the house of a guy I was filming with at the time. He woke me up at 10:30 the next morning, and I was supposed to be ready by one. I arrived late, with a hangover and overwhelming guilt. Thatās how I started my wedding day. The next three years didnāt get any better. I started using drugs,ā Demi wrote. She admitted that she hated herself but felt powerless to change.
The diary also revealed deeply disturbing moments from her childhood. Born and raised in a dysfunctional family, Moore faced significant psychological trauma. āYou know, I screwed up even before I was born. My mom left my real father (Charles Harmon) two weeks before I was born. I was named Elizabeth Faye Harmon. Well, that soap opera was completely hidden from the rest of my life,ā Moore reflected.
Demiās mother, Virginia Gaines, was just 18 when she married her high school sweetheart, Danny Gaines, and later left Texas, moving back to Roswell, New Mexico. She changed Demiās name because her husband wanted the child to carry his surname. Moore documented her childhood filled with her parentsā alcoholism, constant fighting, and frequent moves across the country. She described one night when she heard her motherās frantic crying, which deeply shocked the young girl.
āI got up to see what was happening. My mom was trying to swallow an entire bottle of pills and wash them down with a bottle of liquor. My dad tried to stop her but couldnāt. When he saw me, he said, āIām going to hold her, and I want you to take the pills out of her mouth,’ā Mooreās diary revealed.
