Prince Harry’s wife is promoting her lifestyle show “With Love, Megan.” Recently, she appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show. Body language expert Judy James stated that Markle was shocked by Barrymore’s overly intrusive behavior. The TV host and guest sat on a white couch in the studio, with Drew sitting very close to Megan.
“The way Drew leans in while sitting next to Megan suggests that she is ready to get closer for tactile rituals during their conversation. Meanwhile, the Duchess uses her hands to illustrate or emphasize her point of view, but her posture suggests that at this moment she is not ready for physical contact or embraces. Megan raised both her hands in front of her, clenching them into fists, which looks like a subtle defensive ritual,” noted Judy.
At one point, Markle placed her hand on Barrymore’s elbow when a dog lay between them. “Megan furrowed her brow as if becoming alert and placed her hand on Drew’s shoulder in a polite but firm restraining gesture,” James reported.
Megan is known for her tactile behavior. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she mentioned that she loves hugging and kissing acquaintances on the cheek when meeting them. However, during her time at the palace, many viewed this as a breach of protocol and personal boundaries.
“Megan usually took the lead with hugs, demonstrating her warm, spontaneous tactile side. This trait was met with a wave of coldness from the British royal family. Megan clearly found her match in Drew, whose tactile behavior on the show has become a hallmark of her brand,” the expert continued.
The specialist also evaluated a photo of the Charlie’s Angels star and the Suits actress together. She stated that the Duchess of Sussex seemed uncomfortable due to the TV host’s relentlessly intrusive nature. “But judging by this pose, when you put two famous hugging women next to each other, one of them, namely Megan, takes a step back,” the expert quoted Drew Barrymore and Megan Markle during the show’s filming.
James described Markle’s pose in the photo as straight, polite, and more regal, while Barrymore appeared more informal as she hugged her guest.
“The Duchess of Sussex’s posture may reflect the reaction she received from the British royal family when she hugged them. She keeps her hand in her pocket, not responding to the display of affection, and smiles broadly at the camera rather than tilting her head in a reciprocal gesture. However, Drew persistently clings to her, wrapping her arms around Megan’s waist like a koala and tilting her head to press against her hair. This signals a sense of warm friendship and affection, while Markle looked more emotionally detached, more engaged with the camera than with the host,” Judy added.
