Most of us enjoy being entertained by music, whether it is live or recorded. There are certain people who have that ability, and one of them was Freddie Mercury.
As the frontman for the rock band, Queen, Freddie Mercury had everything that he needed to be at the top of his league. He was a talented singer, he had charisma, and he loved being on stage in front of his fans. Sometimes, he would even be in front of millions of people and we still talk about it today.
Unfortunately, Freddie Mercury passed away much earlier than he should have because he had AIDS. It took away something from the band that could never be replaced, but we still have the music living on in many different ways.
One of the ways that the music continues from Queen is through other singers who have stepped into the spotlight. One of those did so in 1992, when George Michael was on stage with Queen to pay tribute to the late Freddie Mercury.
Not only did George Michael perform in a way that would’ve made Freddie Mercury proud, it was something that we continue to think about today because it was one of the most epic performances. It wasn’t just his voice, it was his entire stage presence.
The crowd in attendance on the day that George Michael took the stage was about 72,000, and you could tell that he was ready to do something that very few people had done before. He stood in front of that audience with Brian May and the rest of Queen, and sang the 1976 hit, ‘Somebody to Love’.
It wasn’t very far into the song that the crowd was absolutely going crazy. His powerful vocals were able to hit every note, and his performance was second to none. Undoubtedly, Freddie Mercury would have been proud of what he did that day and you get to see it again in the following video:
