He’s graced our screens in countless films and television shows over the years, but now Steve Martin has announced that he’s ready to step away from it all. The beloved star is officially retiring—and there’s no doubt he’ll be missed on our screens.

Steve Martin first rose to fame through his appearances on Saturday Night Live, but his talent quickly propelled him beyond the show. With standout roles in hit movies like Father of the Bride, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, and many more, he became a household name in comedy and film.

And his popularity hasn’t faded with age. While many people are slowing down or retiring in their 60s, Martin not only experienced a professional resurgence—he also became a first-time father! He married Anne Stringfield in 2007, and in 2012, the couple welcomed a daughter.

Now, Martin says he’s ready to wind down his career. “There’s a time in your life when people are eager to see you,” he shared in an interview. “And at this stage, it feels like it’s my responsibility to simply show up.”

He currently stars in the hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building alongside longtime friend Martin Short and pop star Selena Gomez. Martin developed his character in a way that feels honest and unforced. “I’m totally fine with my character not evolving,” he admitted. “People always ask, ‘What’s his arc? What does he learn?’ But once you hit 75, you’re just making more mistakes—you’re not learning much new.”

His focus is on staying true to the character. “As long as I stay true to Charles, and Marty stays true to Oliver, we’re good. These characters feel like real people to us.”

Looking to the future, Martin has made it clear: “I won’t be looking for other roles once this show wraps up. No more movies, no more cameos. Oddly enough, this is it.”

Martin’s fame was cemented with his many appearances on the show that started it all. He’s hosted Saturday Night Live 15 times and popped in as a special guest on 19 occasions.

Now, as he nears the end of his acting journey, he’s received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Charles Haden-Savage—a sign that he’s leaving the spotlight at the top of his game.

Steve Martin’s career is one for the history books. It’s clear he’s stepping away with joy and satisfaction, having truly done it all.

Here’s wishing him a happy and fulfilling retirement—and yes, we’re definitely going to miss him!
