Lulu Roman, born Bertha Louise Hable, has sadly passed away at the age of 78 on April 23, 2025, at her son’s home in Bellingham, Washington. A cherished gospel singer, actress, and one of the most beloved cast members of “Hee Haw,” Lulu’s legacy lives on through her music and her powerful testimony of redemption.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, her son Damon shared that she was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing. She had moved to Washington just seven months prior to be closer to him. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

 A Journey of Struggles, Redemption & Faith

Born on May 6, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, Lulu Roman’s early life was filled with hardship. As a child, she was placed in a Baptist orphanage and was never adopted. She battled a thyroid condition that contributed to her weight issues and faced drug addiction during her high school years.

In 1971, she was arrested for drug possession—a turning point that led to a spiritual awakening. By 1973, Lulu had dedicated her life to Christ, famously saying:

“After I gave my heart to Jesus, the Lord started working on me and making me into quite a different person than when I started.”

Lulu rose to national fame as a breakout star on the hit CBS country comedy “Hee Haw.” With her sharp wit and lovable personality, she quickly became a fan favorite. Her close friendship with Buck Owens, one of the show’s stars, helped solidify her place in the cast.

In addition to Hee Haw, she starred in its short-lived spinoff Hee Haw Honeys (1978–1979), appeared in numerous films and television programs, and touched countless lives through her gospel music career.

She won a Dove Award in 1985 for her album You Were Loving Me, and over the years, she collaborated with legends such as Dolly Parton and George Jones.
