The Metropolitan Museum hosted America’s most iconic costume event — the Met Gala. At Anna Wintour’s annual gathering, celebrities once again showcased outfits inspired by the evening’s official theme, which changes every year.
This year’s dress code was titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The theme proved to be a challenging one, and not all attendees managed to follow it successfully.
Nicole Kidman, star of Big Little Lies, appeared at the Met in a custom-made black Balenciaga gown. But it wasn’t the dress that drew the most attention. Many onlookers were stunned to see that the Hollywood actress had chopped off her signature long blonde hair into a short cut. Kidman also wore dramatic makeup, highlighting her lips with a striking crimson red lipstick.
The film icon chose a black backless gown, cinched at the waist and hips with decorative straps. She completed the look with short black gloves and silver diamond leaf-shaped earrings by Cindy Chao. The glamorous outfit was finished off with classic black high-heeled pumps.
An Oscar winner, Kidman recently shared that following the death of her mother, she plans to wrap up her current projects by 2025 and then take a break from acting to spend more time with her family. However, her husband — country music star Keith Urban — is reportedly concerned that she has not followed through on her promise and is once again prioritizing work over family.
Kidman has two adult children, Bella and Connor, whom she adopted during her marriage to Tom Cruise. After their divorce, the To Die For star reportedly lost close contact with them. With Keith, she has two daughters — Sunday (16) and Faith (14).
