Gwyneth Paltrow has finally addressed the buzz around her now-famous ‘vagina candle,’ and her response to the backlash couldn’t have been more blunt.

At 52, the actress and entrepreneur has made it clear she’s not even a little bit sorry about launching the headline-grabbing product, which first hit her Goop site for a bold $75 price tag.

If you somehow missed the candle that went viral back in 2020, it had a simple white label with one striking sentence: “This Smells Like my Vagina,” printed across the front in black letters.

Now, the California-born actress is finally opening up about the whole situation. She spoke during the 2025 Mindvalley Manifesting Summit in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 17, and her take? She’s got zero regrets—and a not-so-subtle message for the critics.

With a laugh, Paltrow shared: “You know that product is so fascinating because we were messing around with different scents one day, and I smelled something and I was like, ‘Oh, that smells like… You know.'”

She explained that it all started out as a playful moment with Heretic perfumer Douglas Little, and from there, things snowballed.

“I was joking,” she said, continuing her story. “And then he [Douglas] was like, ‘Oh we should make that a candle and put it on the site.’ And I thought he was kidding and I was like, ‘yeah, definitely. That sounds like a winner right there,'” she added with a sarcastic smile.

But before she knew it, the candle was up and live on the Goop site. Paltrow chuckled as she recalled the moment it all became real.

“And then we broke the internet, again. And then it took us a long time to live that one down,” she said, remembering the chaos that followed.

Despite waves of criticism, Paltrow said she firmly chose to keep the candle available—and even went on to expand the quirky product line.

“I kept it on the site because there is an aspect to women’s sexuality that I think we’re socialized to feel a lot of shame and I sort of loved this kind of punk rock idea.”

“We are beautiful and we are awesome”, she added proudly. And when it came to addressing the critics directly, she finished with: “Go f*** yourself.”

The original candle, while no longer being produced, featured a blend of geranium, citrusy bergamot, cedar, Damask rose, and ambrette seed. On resale sites, it’s still in demand—sometimes being sold for hundreds of dollars, according to Page Six.

After the candle’s explosive popularity, Paltrow launched a cheeky follow-up series featuring other playful names like ‘This Smells Like my Orgasm’ and ‘This Smells Like My Prenup.’

In 2022, she introduced another called ‘Hands Off My Vagina,’ which was released in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the threat to abortion rights across the country.

With the release of that candle, Goop pledged to donate $25 from every sale to the ACLU Foundation’s Reproductive Freedom Project, supporting women’s rights and access to healthcare.
