Messages of love and sympathy have been pouring in online following the sad news that actor David Hekili Kenui Bell has passed away.

Bell, who was recently featured in the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch, had his death confirmed by a member of his family.

The actor, who had previously made appearances on popular TV shows like Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-0, was announced to have died on Sunday, June 15. His older sister shared a touching and emotional tribute post where she reflected on the special bond they shared throughout their lives.

Although his part in the Disney film was a small one, longtime fans of the Lilo & Stitch franchise will likely recognize him as the man who always ended up having his shaved ice or ice cream knocked over in funny and memorable ways. This ongoing joke even made its way into the 2025 live-action adaptation.

In her heartfelt post, Bell’s sister described him as someone who was “sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant and handsome.” She also shared a touching memory about how just two weeks ago, he had thoughtfully arranged for the entire family to attend the movie’s premiere together in Kapolei.

She said: “He planned ahead and purchased the best seats in the house for us all to go together to opening night in Kapolei just two short weeks ago.”

“That’s one trait we didn’t share, planning ahead. We talked about and were so energized by the fans dressed in Lilo and Stitch gear head to toe, t-shirts, onesies, hats, mask and the merch galore flying off the shelf as we stood in line for pop-corn.”

“I said we should get shave ice after the movie and reenact the scene but then realized the store was already closed. To celebrate him and try to ease our grief we went to get shaved ice and my grandson’s emotion was on point.”

Along with her message, many others have taken to social media to post their condolences and share tributes. Supporters from near and far are sending love to the family, remembering Bell fondly and appreciating the joy he brought through his work.

Closing out her deeply personal message, Jalene wrote: “He enjoyed social media and I’ll be resharing some of my favorite posts he made, and some I am just seeing for the first time that I missed, because they are so funny and heartwarming.”

“Hug your loved ones today. Our last time together after returning home from the movie was just sitting on my living room couch talking story about life, having a seltzer and doing a little genealogy.”, she added.

“Blessed by this and all the big and small moments, I will keep our memories alive.”
