The billionaire behind the messaging platform Telegram has revealed that he’s fathered over 100 children and he’s now shared how much of his wealth they’ll each inherit. In a time when staying connected is easier than ever, Telegram burst onto the scene back in 2013, offering a fresh alternative for people to message each other.

The app, founded by Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov, lets users communicate across devices with its cloud-based, cross-platform setup and it’s since become a major player in the messaging world.

While it doesn’t quite match the global reach of apps like WhatsApp or Facebook, Telegram still enjoys wide use, especially in places like Russia and India. But even with all of his professional success, it’s Durov’s personal life that’s been making headlines lately.

The Telegram creator has admitted that he’s fathered more than 100 children. And if you’re wondering how exactly that happened… keep reading.

Durov has split his children into two categories. He explained that he is the “official father” of six children, who he shares with three different women. On top of that, he also revealed that he has fathered over 100 more children through sperm donation.Speaking with French publication Le Point, he explained“They are all my children and will all have the same rights! I don’t want them to tear each other apart after my death.”

He also shared that it all began when he started donating sperm at a clinic to help a friend about fifteen years ago. That same clinic later informed him that more than 100 babies had been born from his donations across 12 different countries.

The 40-year-old tech mogul, whose estimated net worth is $13.9 billion, has promised that every one of his children will receive an equal share of his fortune. So if you do the math, that would mean each of his more than 100 children could be looking at an inheritance of about $139 million each. Not bad at all.

“I want them to live like normal people, to build themselves up alone, to learn to trust themselves, to be able to create, not to be dependent on a bank account.” he said.

Even though it might seem surprising that he already has his will in place, he explained why. Durov told the magazine that his role involves serious risks. In his words, “defending freedoms” can earn you powerful enemies—even from major governments, so he felt it was important to get his affairs sorted early. In recent years, both Durov and Telegram have come under scrutiny. He was arrested in France last year on criminal charges tied to claims that Telegram wasn’t doing enough to prevent illegal activity on the platform.

The company has pushed back on these claims, denying any wrongdoing. Durov himself called the accusations against him “totally absurd.”

He added: “Just because criminals use our messaging service among many others doesn’t make those who run it criminals.”Durov also shared that back in 2014, he lost his position at VKontakte—Russia’s biggest social media network after refusing to follow the Kremlin’s orders to censor content on the platform.

These days, Durov lives in Dubai and holds citizenship in both Dubai and France. At the moment, it’s unclear what will happen with the charges he faces. There haven’t been any recent public updates on his legal situation.
