Netflix fans have found a brand-new crime drama that’s got everyone buzzing, and they can’t stop talking about how good it is.

Lately, Netflix has really stepped up its game with crime thrillers. Just recently, viewers were gripped by a wild mini-series that kept getting more intense with each episode, and another that some people are calling the best crime show of 2025 so far. And those are just a couple of highlights.

But the latest series grabbing all the attention is a new drama created and executive produced by Kevin Williamson. The show features an impressive cast including Jake Weary, Melissa Benoist, Maria Bello, Danielle Campbell, and Holt McCallany.

The story centers around the fictional Buckley family, and it’s become so gripping that viewers are reportedly watching all eight episodes back-to-back in a single night.

The show, titled The Waterfront, dives into the struggles of the Buckley family as they try to hold onto their fading fishing business in North Carolina. It shows just how far they’re willing to go to reclaim what once belonged to them and protect their family legacy.

While talking to Tudum about the plot, Williamson shared: “This is about a working man who’s trying to make a go of it for his family. They’ve pulled themselves up from nothing and they’ve built this mini fishing empire in their small little town.”

“Now it’s being taken away from them bit by bit. They’ll do anything to hold onto it, because it represents their family.”

Over on Facebook in the popular ‘Netflix Bangers’ group, the new crime drama has become the center of conversation. One fan even rated it a perfect ’10/10′.

Another person gave their thoughts, saying: “It was good. There were a few episodes where it got out of control.” A third viewer jumped in and added: “Started this last night, binged 6 episodes really good.”

Someone else also chimed in and said: “Such a good watch if you like action and killings.”

When asked to reflect more on the series, Williamson explained: “It’s just about a bunch of people who make mistakes. They do some bad things, and then they get in deeper and deeper and deeper.”

He added: “Sometimes they keep making worse mistakes, and sometimes they find their way out and do the good thing.”

Although fans are definitely loving The Waterfront, it’s not winning everyone over—especially some critics in the industry who seem to be split on it.

Lucy Mangan from The Guardian had her own take in a review, writing: “It is escapist summer nonsense with – God, I hope – no pretensions to being otherwise. Dive into the adult creek and wallow in nostalgia as the waves of absurdity sweep towards shore.”

Meanwhile, Ben Travers at IndieWire had a very different view and wrote: “Nothing that happens has to evoke any real emotions, it just has to remind you of shows that did. Even if you haven’t seen Ozark or Yellowstone – heck, even if The Waterfront is the first series you’ve ever seen – there’s no mistaking a sinking ship.”

If you want to check out what everyone’s talking about, The Waterfront is currently streaming on Netflix.
