In a top-secret listening party for an exclusive group of fans in Los Angeles, Jennifer Lopez got real about her emotional state following her much-publicized 2024 divorce.
On July 2, 2025, world-famous singer and dancer Jennifer Lopez held a listening party for her biggest Los Angeles-based fans. Lopez debuted six new songs at the secret event.
In this intimate setting, the singer seized the opportunity to speak about her recent divorce from actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck, discussing the many emotions the experience stirred up in her.

At the event, Lopez played five uptempo tracks and one ballad. It was this slower jam, titled “Wreckage of You,” that prompted Lopez to talk to the audience about her emotional state during the period following her 2024 divorce.
“‘Wreckage of You’ is a pop ballad that she told us she co-wrote and recorded two weeks ago,” said Edgardo Luis Rivera, one of the attendees. “She said she was lying in bed after a long day of tour rehearsals when the idea of the song came to her.”

“Last year was a very difficult time for her both personally and professionally. She had to cancel her tour and really focus on herself,” explained Rivera. He added:
“Fast-forward to one year later, and she feels better and stronger than ever, so she wanted to write a song about coming out of a bad situation much stronger.”

Lopez “kept thinking of the word ‘wreck’ because it means destruction, but she wasn’t destroyed,” the attendee told Us. “In fact, the lyrics of the song are, ‘I’m stronger after the wreckage of you,'” he concluded.
Another fan invited to the event described the ballad as a “very emotional, empowering song about walking away from a relationship and coming out a stronger person.”

According to attendees, Lopez hasn’t decided whether she’ll release these new tracks, when, or how. However, she wanted to perform new material that expressed her current emotional headspace, and will use her summer tour to do so.
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, 2024, two years to the date after their romantic Georgia ceremony. Per the filing, the couple separated in April of that year, with Lopez waiving spousal support and asking the court to deny the same to Ben.

The couple had no prenuptial agreement, meaning that their earnings over two years of marriage were legally treated as community property — which divorce lawyers found quite unusual.
At the time, their Beverly Hills marital home was on the market, and reports described the negotiations as tense. Both Lopez and Affleck were actively searching for new homes.

Lopez discussed some of these emotions in October 2024, during a conversation with comedian and actress Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine. “Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people,” Lopez told Glaser.
“I have to have happiness within myself. I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good,'” said Lopez.
Affleck has also opened up about their separation. In April 2025, in an interview with GQ, Affleck was asked about Lopez’s documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” and his overall disposition towards the project.
He said that he wanted his participation in the documentary to be both honest and interesting, and found the entire concept to be an “interesting examination.”
“My temperament is to be a little bit more reserved and private than hers. As happens in relationships, you don’t always have the same attitude towards these things. And so I thought, ‘Oh, this is interesting because how do you reconcile that?'”, said Affleck.
He explained that, at the same time, “I love and support this person. I believe in them. They’re great. I want people to see that. (…) You don’t marry a ship’s captain and then say, ‘Well, I don’t like going out in the water.'”

He added that “it’s important to say that wasn’t the cause of some major fracture. It’s not like you can watch that documentary and go, ‘Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had.'”
Despite the challenges of their public lives and differing views on privacy, both Lopez and Affleck seem to be finding their footing in their respective new chapters.
