At first, Karina thought they were live worms. Luckily, they weren’t moving — otherwise, the scare would’ve been much worse. But the truth turned out to be far less terrifying.
She wondered — could it be mold? Some type of fungus? Or had some plants somehow grown roots under the mat despite the lack of light?
But the explanation was much simpler and more mundane: the material of the mat had started to melt from the heat of the tiles, and the rubber fibers really did resemble crawling creatures.
Once Karina realized it wasn’t any kind of animal but melted material, a new concern arose — how to clean up the mess?
“What would you do in my place?” she asked her followers. “The mat melted — how can I remove the residue?”
Karina tried to fix it herself, but soon realized it wasn’t an easy task. Online users recommended adhesive removers. Many people who saw the photo also initially thought it was worms.
“I seriously thought they were worms! I nearly fainted!” one commenter admitted.
“Who else got scared thinking they were larvae?” wrote another user.
Cleaning professionals advised Karina to use glue solvents to remove the melted rubber residue.
