The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has reported a terrifying alligator attack involving 15-year-old Summer Hinote. The teen was near a body of water when the massive reptile lunged at her. Without warning, it latched onto her leg and yanked her under the surface.

According to what Summer shared with FOX 35, the animal didn’t just bite her—it began shaking her violently once she was underwater, making it even harder for her to fight back or get her bearings. The entire encounter happened in a matter of seconds, but it left lasting emotional and physical marks.

“I just started punching it in the head as hard as I could. And he had let go and and then grabbed me again.” Hinote explained during the interview. “And the second time that he let go and grabbed me, he had drug me underneath the water. And he like shook my leg around.”

She described the harrowing scene in vivid detail, recalling how helpless she felt as the alligator thrashed her around like a rag doll. Despite the fear, she found the strength to fight back the only way she could—by punching.

The frightening event took place on June 22 in Pond Creek, Florida, a rural area located about 25 miles away from the coastal town of Destin. The area is known for its natural beauty but also for wildlife encounters like this one.

Summer said she was enjoying the water like any other teen might on a hot summer day when she suddenly “felt something brush up against me.” That moment was the first sign that something wasn’t right, and everything changed in an instant.

During the ordeal, Summer remembered that there was a brief moment when the alligator let go of her leg. But that didn’t mean she was free. She soon realized the animal had only released her to adjust its grip—trying to latch on more tightly and pull her back in.

“Whenever he let go, I had started running up. And I had gotten up out of the water.” she said, recounting the moment she managed to scramble away and get herself out of the water as fast as she could.

The struggle between her and the alligator lasted only moments, but it was enough time for her instincts to kick in and save her life.
