On April 13, Palm Sunday—a day meant to symbolize life, peace, and renewal—turned into one of devastation for Ukraine. A Russian missile attack on the center of Sumy left more than 30 people dead and over 100 injured, including children. The National Police of Ukraine released the first footage from the aftermath, showing the chaos and heartbreak at the scene.

Officers and emergency services worked urgently to rescue survivors and provide aid to the injured. The city, wrapped in smoke from powerful explosions, saw its public transport and peaceful streets shattered in moments.

“This cruel act left another scar on Ukraine’s heart,” the National Police stated. “We saw the enemy’s true face. We will remember every name. Eternal memory to the fallen, and strength to the wounded.”

President Zelenskyy condemned the ruthless attack, while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his condolences, reaffirming America’s commitment to peace. Keith Kellogg, special envoy for President Trump, called the attack “a violation of basic decency” and condemned the targeting of civilians as completely unacceptable.
