Receiving a diagnosis of autism can be a daunting prospect for many parents. The path appeared overwhelming when Adrienne’s kid was diagnosed at 14 months of age. He struggled with a number of developmental problems, didn’t talk until he was four, and couldn’t finish an IQ test until he was eight. The issues were many and included nervous system delays, dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, auditory processing dysfunction, higher-order language deficiencies, and significant gross and fine motor challenges.
Nevertheless, this driven young guy defied all odds and refused to let these difficulties to define him. Years of tenacity, steadfast family support, and an unrelenting attitude allowed him to not only catch up but beyond expectations.
He is at the beginning of an amazing new chapter in his life today. He is graduating in second or third place, close to the top of his class. He is currently being actively recruited to swim at the collegiate level after leading his team to success as captain of the varsity swim team. Furthermore, he is already enrolled in a four-year university program to study college-level calculus remotely, which is evidence of his perseverance and intellectual development.
The ultimate accomplishment? Once almost unattainable, he recently received acceptance to his ideal university.
