In an unusual development, even in the world, Maritza, a young woman from Ixtapaluca, is pregnant with 13 children and will give birth in the coming days.
The woman is the wife of a firefighter, council member Gerardo Guerrero announced during a session held Wednesday morning.
Firefighter Antonio Soriano Ordoñez and his wife Maritza Hernández Méndez are natives of this town and are already parents of six children: Antony, 5 years old, twins Paola and Dafney, 2 years old, and triplets Catherine, Alondra, and Ximena, 1 year old.
“In the coming days, this couple will have 13 more children—13 more, I said it right—13 more children. I want to bring this particular issue to this council meeting because here in this building, there are mothers and fathers of families, and we know what it means to have a son or daughter,” the council member said, to the astonishment of the attendees.
“He will have 13 or 19 children with these children. Bringing this matter to this floor is a call for solidarity from this city council regarding the expenses for this family,” the council member said.
According to the public servant, Antonio is an outstanding firefighter with 14 years of service, but his salary is insufficient for the 19 children he will now have, so he asked the city council to provide an initial basket of support for the babies
She added that the Issemym medical staff in charge of monitoring the pregnancy reported that the 13 were in optimal condition and would be born in Toluca due to the specialist care required for the delivery.
“I ask the general public to show solidarity with this family. This is a unique case in the world. There are few cases like this in the world, and a firefighter’s salary is a conventional one,” Guerrero said.
The councilor indicated that those who wish to support the couple with in-kind donations can visit the Civil Protection module at the Mayor’s Office.
