For several years now, I’ve been regularly walking the local trails near my home — at least twice a week. Over that time, I’ve seen my share of strange and unusual things.

But nothing could have prepared me for what I came across one morning during my usual walk. I was calmly strolling between the trees when my eyes caught sight of a strange pile lying on the ground ahead.

At first glance, it looked as though someone had dumped hundreds of tennis balls in the forest — bright yellow spots standing out sharply against the brown leaves and green underbrush.

Curious, I walked closer, thinking it might be trash left behind by hikers or children. But what I saw made my heart skip a beat. These weren’t balls. They were living creatures.

Right there in front of me lay dozens of tiny chicks. Just newborns — wet, trembling, barely out of their shells.

Some were still stuck together, others already trying to stand on their fragile legs. They were huddled tightly and chirping pitifully.

It was painfully clear: someone had dumped these chicks here and left them to die.

I immediately called the police. While waiting, I also contacted the local animal shelter and explained what I’d found. Within half an hour, rescue workers were on the scene.

They were just as shocked as I was. Someone had deliberately abandoned these helpless creatures in a remote spot, hoping no one would discover them.

Thankfully, most of the chicks were saved. What happened to the person who did this — I still don’t know.
