After regaining his bearings, Cordale realized the kids hadn’t made it out and were still trapped inside.
He called out to them and urged them to jump from the window to escape the flames. The boy managed to leap out, but the young girl was “too scared”, so Cordale made the brave decision to go back in and rescue her, according to details shared on a GoFundMe page.
The courageous act left Cordale with burns covering 92 percent of his body, a devastating injury.
So far, Cordale has had at least four surgeries. He remains wrapped in bandages from head to toe and is expected to stay in the hospital for at least half a year as he fights through recovery.

Their mother had been working when the tragic fire broke out on June 23.
Alqawi expressed how incredibly proud she is of her brother for running back into a burning building to save the kids.

Cierra mentioned she found out about what happened to her brother through social media. Someone had posted footage of Cordale walking after pulling the children out of the blaze.
She said he looked like a “zombie”. “He looked like that. That’s what he looked like.” she told the outlet.
Shortly after, those same bystanders signaled to nearby firefighters and helped get a ladder up to assist the woman still inside.

A total of 44 units were affected, around 100 residents have been displaced, and the estimated damage is roughly $3.5 million.

“The firefighters and first responders worked tirelessly to contain the fire and acted quickly to protect residents and preserve property.”
“We extend our heartfelt concern to those affected by this incident, especially to the individuals who sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital.”

“The American Red Cross also established the Zelma George Recreation Center as a temporary shelter for residents displaced by the fire.”
“The city will continue to coordinate efforts with local organizations to assist those impacted by this tragedy as needed.”
The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated, and authorities are working to figure out what sparked the blaze.
