Sofia had always trusted Gerda’s instincts. The German Shepherd had been her protector since the day she found her as a rain-soaked puppy on the side of the road. So when Gerda was invited to be part of the wedding, no one thought twice about it.

But as Sofia stepped forward to walk down the aisle, Gerda suddenly lunged in front of her, barking wildly. She pawed at Sofia’s dress, her teeth gripping the fabric as if trying to pull her back. The guests whispered in shock as the pristine gown got dirtied.

Sofia crouched down, confused—until she saw Gerda’s limp paw. “What happened to you?” she murmured. Then a voice from the crowd spoke: “Your fiancé kicked her.”

Everything clicked. The way Gerda had always been wary of him, how he’d roll his eyes when the dog curled up beside them.

Without another word, Sofia scooped Gerda into her arms. “This wedding isn’t happening,” she declared. The guests stood frozen as she marched out, her torn dress trailing behind her.

Sometimes, the best decisions aren’t made with logic—they’re made with love. And Gerda’s love for Sofia was louder than any wedding vow.
