Social media can be pretty ruthless, and 21-year-old mom Maci Mugele knows that all too well. She’s been getting slammed online after sharing a video of her big baby boy, Gunner, who already weighs a whopping 22.5 pounds at only four months old.

“OMG poor baby” “Can babies get diabetes?” “This should be child abuse.” and even mentions of “Ozempic.” are just a few of the harsh and unkind things people have been writing in the comments under her video. The clip, which shows off her chubby little guy, has stirred up quite a storm online.

“When you have a 100th percentile, off-the-charts 4-month-old.” Mugele captioned the video reveal, which ended up getting nearly 20 million views on TikTok.

“22.5 pounds of pure muscle.” she joked lightheartedly, as she held her big baby up with both hands for the camera.

Born on February 19, Gunner isn’t just heavy—he’s tall too. He ranks in the 90th percentile for his height, is already more than two feet long, and even wears clothing made for toddlers.

But what really shocks the young mom isn’t just how big her baby is—it’s the way some strangers are choosing to talk about him online. She’s been more hurt by their mean-spirited comments than anything else.

“I thought that people would think it was cute if they saw it, but I didn’t realize how horrible people can be.” Mugele said in an interview with Kennedy News, clearly heartbroken over how people reacted to her post.

“It made me upset to realize that there are people like that in this world who feel so comfortable saying these things about a baby.”

She also said it’s deeply hurtful to be seen as a bad parent by people who don’t know her at all. That kind of judgment really stings.

“I don’t know how it’s cruel or abusive that I feed him whenever he’s hungry,” she shared, explaining that Gunner has always been on the larger side—even when she was still pregnant with him.

“He always measured a week or two ahead when I was pregnant.” she added. “I could just tell that he was pretty big, and everybody already told me that my stomach was bigger than average.”

Like most expectant moms, Mugele was curious and even a little anxious to find out just how big her baby was growing before birth.

“You only have two scans throughout your pregnancy.” she explained, “so I went to an ultrasound place and paid for an ultrasound to be done to see how big he was.”

“They told me that he was measuring quite large for how far along I was.” she recalled with a laugh. “I think I was like 34 weeks when he was measuring at 6 pounds and 3-ounces.”

When Gunner was born, he weighed 8 pounds and 1 ounce, which is a bit above the average newborn weight of about 7 pounds and 6 ounces. His length was right on the mark at 19.5 inches.

But since then, this growing guy—who Mugele says “eats more than the average baby” has packed on the pounds pretty quickly.

Despite all the comments, both Mugele and Gunner’s doctors aren’t worried. They say he’s doing just fine health-wise.

“The doctors said that he’s healthy, but sometimes people just have big babies.” she confidently said. “He’s big for his height as well, so I think that contributes to him being bigger.”

“Ever since the second day in the hospital, he has eaten more than the average baby.” she continued, going on to say “Doctors always told me he was eating a little bit more than the normal baby, which is fine, they said.”

Luckily, it’s not all negative. Plenty of kind-hearted folks—including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have shown love and support for little Gunner and his big appetite.

“Calling dibs.” joked the football team’s verified TikTok account, hinting that Gunner might just have a future on the field.

“OMG, that’s a big, healthy baby.” added another happy viewer.

“Oh, I love me a chunky baby!!!!!” someone else commented excitedly.

“He’s the cutest.” said another fan.

Mugele, who now finds herself among other proud moms of big babies, is clearly just as amazed by her own little guy.

“Like the doctor said.” she said again during her chat with Kennedy News, “he’s perfectly healthy and has no problem with his weight.”
