After years of eye-related health issues, Katie Piper announced on her Instagram early this year that she had decided to try a prosthetic eye shell.
When Katie’s vile ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch, now 47, planned a horrific ambush in March 2008, he hired someone to hurl sulfuric acid in her face, severely burning her. Katie was only 24 at the time.
Only two weeks had passed since the couple’s first date. She had allegedly been raped by Lynch in a hotel room in London the night before the incident.
As word of the horrific assault traveled throughout the world, Katie required 400 surgeries. Lynch reportedly received a life sentence in prison.
The event undoubtedly had a significant impact on Katie’s future. Despite her terrible injuries, the former model courageously started to rebuild her life and became an advocate for other victims. For her charitable and burn efforts, she received an OBE (Order of the British Empire).
Following surgery to help save her left eye at the end of 2023, Katie gave followers an update on her health.
“I’ve spent the morning back at the eye clinic as I’ve got problems with my eye,” the TV host stated in an Instagram video.
“I have an infection and a defect that are getting really difficult to treat.”
The 41-year-old also disclosed that having to have more surgery for the injuries she had in the heinous attack nearly two decades ago was “mentally hard.”
After years of battling her health, Katie has now bravely decided to test a prosthetic eye. “I’ve reached the end of road somewhat after many years of battling with my eye health, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell,” she stated when announcing the news.
“With an amazing medical team at my side, this is the beginning of my quest to get an artificial eye. As always, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone in the NHS and private healthcare systems for their generosity and skill.
“I’ll talk about my journey; I’m anxious and hopeful that I can handle it. If any of you have been on this journey or have any advice, please share it in the comments section.”
Katie included a picture and a video of her procedure, which included the doctor’s prosthetic eye insertion.
