US President Donald Trump decided to give tariffs a break to handle other matters he deemed crucial, for instance, showerhead water pressure.
He signed an executive order on April 9 to make “America’s Showers Great Again.” While it might seem like a first-world problem to some, Trump sees it imperative that he takes care of his “beautiful hair” and half down the time he takes in the shower.
Why it was a priority for Trump
Trump explained that he had had enough of the lack of water pressure in showers, toilets, and sinks in the US. He even tried to make a point, claiming that Americans were “flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once” back in 2019.
The history of water restrictions
President George HW Bush was the first to put water restrictions in 1992. He signed the Energy Policy Act during this year, where new toilets couldn’t use over 1.6 gallons of water per flush and shower heads weren’t allowed to produce 2.5 gallons of water per minute.
Then came Barack Obama
Obama tweaked the rules during his presidency as part of his Energy Conservation Program. He made the water efficiency rules apply to all nozzles on a shower head rather than each individual one.
Trump changed the rules and so did Joe Biden
At the end of Trump’s first term, he wanted to change the rules so that each individual nozzle can shoot up to 2.5 gallons of water per minute but when Biden took over, he blocked this order.
Now that Trump is back for his second period, he is now trying to achieve his long-lost shower dreams.
He finally signed an executive order
In the Oval Office, he ended the water pressure restrictions with an executive order, facilitating his hair care routine.
“In my case, I like to take a nice shower, take care of my beautiful hair. I have to stand under the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. It comes out like ‘drip, drip, drip’. It’s ridiculous,” the president explained.
The White House explained the importance of these decisions
“By restoring shower freedom, President Trump is following through on his commitment to dismantle unnecessary regulations and put Americans first,” the White House explained.
It also deemed the previous restrictions a “radical green agenda that made life worse for Americans.”It also stated that Americans “pay for their own water and should be free to choose their shower heads without federal meddling.”
