One of the biggest moments in the life of anyone who is non-binary is when they come out. It is often a moment that they feel triumphant about, but there are also times when they may regret it.
Bella Ramsey, one of the stars of The Last of Us has recently revealed some regret for coming out as non-binary publicly. They then opened up with some of the battles they had after that event took place in 2023.
The Brit announced that she was genderfluid when they were 19 years old. It happened during a promotion for The Last of Us and it wasn’t long before some toxic comments began pouring in.
Now that they are 21, they are speaking about the topic and saying that they didn’t want to become headline news with the announcement. They spoke to The Guardian and when they were asked to speak about how they felt about coming out as non-binary, they opened up.
“Part of me looks back and I wish that I didn’t, because I didn’t want it to become a headline and a big thing.
“And obviously it was going to, and I didn’t really understand that at the time. And I wasn’t really prepared for that. But on the other hand, people have said to me that it’s been very helpful for them seeing some representation.
“So it’s been a mixed bag, but overall, I think it was a good thing, just for me living more freely, without feeling like I’m keeping a secret.”
Ramsey has changed their views on the matter since that time and said that they are finished with the gender and sexual orientation being the hot topic. They would like to talk about something else and continued:
“But now I’m like, ‘I’ll talk about it, but I don’t want it to be the focus any more.’ I guess I’m just quite chill with it. And I want everyone else to be as chill with it basically.”
It got to the point where Ramsey decided to deactivate their Instagram account last week, citing Kit Harrington and Jesse Eisenberg as the reasons.
“Those are the two actors who I just thought were the coolest people to ever walk the earth, and neither of them had social media.
“I remember them just being so normal and funny and interesting. They were famous because they were great at something, not because they were celebrities. They never pushed themselves out there and made themselves more famous.”
